Phoenix House

Phoenix House

Phoenix House, the 4650m2 centralised offices for Mid Devon Borough Council, provides accommodation for council staff across three levels and a 650m2 library and learning centre. The project involved the consolidation of a number of council departments, originally housed in various buildings around the town, into one building on a riverside site on the southern edge of Tiverton.

The development, L-shaped on plan with a fully glazed central atrium entrance, comprises a reinforced concrete frame structure with reinforced concrete flat slabs (designed using finite element analysis) on piled foundations.

Its proximity to an existing watercourse determined specific flood protection design including upfilling of the site, drainage design to the entrance highway and car park, street lighting drainage and sewer diversion.

The building achieved a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating.
