South Bristol Skills Academy
Located at the gateway to Hengrove Park this 11,200m2 campus provides facilities for over 3,000 students across four levels including teaching facilities for catering, hair and beauty therapy, motor vehicle and motorcycle maintenance, and construction skills in classroom and workshop environments.
The steel framed building supports a distinct curved external envelope formed of steel ribs and purlins/rails supporting the Kalzip XT standing seam roof and side sheeting. Full height glazing to the entrance is supported by vertical tubular steel trusses, allowing natural light to flood the atrium.
Clarkebond is also responsible for the utilities, highway and envrionmental strategy design as lead constultant to Bristol City Council.
The scheme achieved a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good' and includes energy generated by roof mounted solar panels and a Biomass boiler.
This project was 'Highly Commended' in the South West Built Environment Awards 2011
