Cowes Learning Centre
The transformation of Cowes High School as part of the BSF One School Pathfinder Programme will provide a new 1,600 pupil learning centre for 11-19 year olds as well as facilities for adult education programmes.
Clarke Bond, as part of the project team, is providing CDM coordination including advice and consultancy from feasibility stage through to completion. Additional work includes pre-demolition surveys of the existing school, advising on best methods for dismantling the school reducing risk and cost, and providing advice regarding the suitably of consultants and principal contractor from a health and safety perspective. In addition a series of assessment questions for the tender documentation was developed to enable us to assist in grading competency.
The £36m project will incorporate sustainable building methods and energy efficiency techniques (BREEAM 'very good' or 'excellent ' to be achieved) to provide a 21st Century learning environment, setting an ambitious educational agenda for the Isle of Wight, an exemplar of how future schools on the Island should be procured and managed.
Services: CDM coordination.
