Littleton Green Community School

Littleton Green Community School

Located on the site of a former colliery on the edge of the village of Cannock in Staffordshire, the design of this new 2,608m2 school is conceived as a 'learning tree'; a large green roof canopy extends across a two storey structure comprising a series of 'tree houses' - flexible single and double height spaces and classrooms.

The school is then designed as a single box clad in timber, with cut aways clad in polycarbonate and colour render. This mix of materials creates a building which is itself a tool for learning with colour, contrast, signage and different textures and surfaces. The main community hub is further differentiated clad in photovoltaic panels.
