Bethlem Medium Secure Unit
The design of this new 9,784m2 facility in Kent, part of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, creates a new 'healing village'; a self-contained group of buildings.
Six wards with private gardens, accessed through the administration areas and a connecting two storey glazed corridor, provide therapy areas for the patients. The natural slope to the site helps maintain privacy within the one and two storey development with pitched roofs and landscaped courtyards reinforcing a residential as opposed to institutional environment.
